First Impressions

Appearance

Vance is a 15-year-old boy, 5'7", with blond hair and blue eyes.

He's not as big or athletic as one might expect of someone with a reputation like his, but he's quick and scrappy enough to do some damage.

As a ghost, he has blood-soaked clothes and hair, blood dripping from his nose and mouth, and a prominent cut across the bridge of his nose.

Fashion

Vance is a classic rock/metal fan straight out of 1978 with long teased-up hair, a denim vet with patches on each shoulder (a spade on the right, and a club on the left), and various rings and bracelets. He also wears a woven choker necklace.

Demeanor & Attitude

BAD. Vance is a terrible influence with a nasty attitude who likes violence and mayhem. He has enough of a reputation that kids at school are terrified of him. He's not the type of bully that goes out looking for people to pick on, but he goes from zero to enraged fast and takes everything as a personal slight.

He's also very competitive, especially when it comes to gaming (RIP Vance Hopper, you would have loved shouting obscenities in Call of Duty). Pinball's his main game but he'll give anything a try.

That said, he still has moments where he's chill, and he tends to be nicer to girls and people he likes (although he'll still be abrasive and curse liberally). As badass as the thinks he is, he's still a kid, and if you're a cool guy older than him he may get a little star-struck.

Vance is likely to be more guarded and hostile around anyone too much older than him (around 30+ or so).

Voice

Loud and abrasive, and always trying to sound like his voice is a little deeper than it actually is.

Misc

Canonically, Vance is a ghost. He was kidnapped and murdered by a serial killer known as The Grabber, and his vengeful spirit stuck around. Ghosts in The Black Phone slowly lose their memories, though Vance is notable for being the only one that still remembers his name (perhaps because he's a little older than the others and had a strong sense of identity). In memes and PSLs he'll be played pre-death unless stated otherwise, but ghost!Vance is always available on request.

I'm open to crossovers and AUs, especially with other horror canons or canons from around the same time period (IT, Stranger Things, etc.). If in doubt, feel free to PM me and ask.

☆ Offensive Subjects: I don't need trigger warnings for any subject matter. Vance's canon involves child death and implied sexual assault. The former will likely be mentioned if playing with ghost!Vance or post-canon Vance, and may include details of his murder at the hands of a serial killer. As for the latter, it was never explicitly mentioned in the movie (though heavily implied) and thus I won't be explicitly mentioning it in RP unless your character specifically asks (and even then Vance will probably deflect the question unless he really, really trusts them). That said, if you'd like to opt-out of being tagged please leave a comment here (they're screened).

IC Permissions

☆ Shipping: Yes, open to any gender with characters in his age range (though given the time period he's from he'll have some initial hangups around dating another guy). Be aware that even though Vance isn't a villain he's not a very nice person and likely won't be a good boyfriend, but he's nicer to people he's fond of, especially if it builds up slowly.

☆ Smut: Nothing explicit please, fade-to-black only.

☆Fighting/Injuries: Sure. He loves to fight and is easy to provoke.

☆ Killing: If he's a ghost, then he's already dead. If he's not then let's plot first.

☆Mindreading/Telepathy/etc.: Yes, if your character has powers feel free to use them.
